Something New

I have been doing a lot of crocheting lately and have been itching to do a knitting project.
I came across a post on Knitting Daily about a color change method called Intarsia.  I was sold on the method when I saw the pattern they were using was for a R2D2 hat! LOVE!  I had tried fair isle before on some earlier projects and never liked how they came out - see the gumba hat I made in 2010.  I had left all my ideas that involved complicated color change behind at the time.

So I had to give this new method a try! I found a great video online with a good beginner's pattern to start!
The pattern was a washcloth with a heart in the middle.  I did change the measurements because I didn't want a HUGE cloth and I was really wanting to focus on this new method.

getting started and looking good!
Intarsia gets a little tricky! Look at all those yarn tails!!!
I have to say that I LOVE this new method of doing color change!
My daughter has already claimed this washcloth for herself :)
Have you ever tried Intarsia before? What do you think of it?
Be on the lookout for another project post I tried with Intarsia!!!

Spring Goodies

Last week I made some cute spring inspired coasters!!
I LOVE how these turned out! They were easy to make while relaxing this week.

I made coasters in Red & Aqua, Pink & Lime Green and Blue & Orange
I also had to make some coffee cozies to match!

These are already available on my etsy shop if you want some for yourself!  I think I need to make a coffee cozy just for me!

Geeky Hoops - BSG

I added a new Geeky Hoop to my collection!!

I love the play on words!!
This is a reference to Battle Star Galatica.
Some of the characters would call the Cylons (aka robot evil) toasters and would express their hate with the phrase "frakkin toasters."

My Geeky Hoops have been pretty popular in my etsy shop and have already sold 2 of my TARDIS!
Are there other geeky references you want me to capture?
I'm still working on the perfect Buffy one! So many things to choose from!!

Happy Granny Blanket is Done!!

I am SO happy with how this blanket turned out!!!!
It really is a happy blanket!

I used a turquoise color to join the squares together and used a tutorial from Attic 24 for doing it.

I also got to use the book I got myself for Christmas for the border! I used #46 in case you wanted to know :)
I'll be adding this blanket soon to my Etsy Shop if you are interested in making it your own happy granny blanket!!

Sharing some helpful stuff

This weekend I found a huge hole in the hexagon blanket I made for my daughter. HOW FRUSTRATING! Thankfully it was easy enough to fix.

I spent some time looking around the interwebs for some helpful information on how to prevent this from happening.  I saw some comments about not letting people use the blankets - NO WAY! They are too awesome to not use!

What I discovered was that I need to do a better job at weaving in those pesky tails!!! I have noticed that the way I was taking care of them wasn't working 100% of the time because they still managed to worm their way out and stare me down in defiance.  Seriously this is my least favorite part of crocheting and knitting!!

Thankfully I discovered this video of taking care of the tail as you start a new color for granny squares and another for dealing with the tails in the end!  I wanted to share them with you in case you had found yourself in the same situation.  The lady who does these videos is super helpful and she has a bunch of other videos listed on the side that she has done.

What helpful tips have you discovered that you want to share with other people?  Maybe I can share them on the blog too!!!
