Baa Baa

My brother also wanted a black sheep, so I gladly made one for him!
Since my brother is a "rockstar" his black sheep needed a mohawk!

What I worked on this weekend

I was inspired by MiniMak Makings a few months ago when I saw her hexagons.
Friday I bought my yarn and got to work.  I used this website for the instructions

I've made 12 so far.
Eventually this will be put together for a blanket for my daughter.

Pay it Forward Crafty Style

A few weeks ago my friend Jaime had a status on facebook that said
"Pay it Forward for creative people: I promise to send something handmade to the first 5 people who leave a comment to this update. They must in then promise to post this and send something they made to the first 5 posters on their status. The rules are that it must be handmade by you and it must be sent to your 5 people sometime in 2010."

Well I had to get it on that! So I commented and re-posted the message on my facebook.
My friend Allison was the first to respond and I made her a headband. I got the idea from a headband I received from AJ.

She just got it in the mail, so its safe to post!!

And I got these lovely graduation invitations from my friend Jaime

I walk the stage this Saturday for my Gradation from UT with my Masters in Social Work.  I wrap everything up this summer with one last class and finishing up the internship hours. YEAH!

DIY Clipboard

My daughter and I had a nice girly day.  We did lots of hanging out but towards the end of the day she said she wanted to make a gift for her teacher.  At first she wanted me to knit her a bunny... I talked her out of that.  Then she thought we could decorate a clipboard for her since she uses them all the time.  GREAT IDEA!
Before we went to get the supplies I found these awesome/easy instructions
I will say my almost 6 year old daughter has great taste and a good eye for awesome prints! She found this blue sparkly paper she wanted to use and we just went from there.
Here are the supplies

We cut out the paper by tracing the clipboard on the wrong side and then cutting it out. I let my daughter put on the mod podge on herself.  We then placed the paper on one side.  We found that the paper didn't want to stick at first so we used some heavy items to help smooth the paper and help hold it down.

After the paper was glued to each side we added ribbons to the clip.  Our clip board could actually come apart and that was nice at first, until I had to screw it back together... But I eventually did!

We added stickers to the back spelling out Ms. Moore's name.  We also put another finishing coat of mod podge on top of the paper and stickers to seal everything in.
It turned out pretty cute and we are both very proud!

Sometimes its good to make mistakes

Remember how I was working on that Earth Day Project?  Remember how I was going to use it as my Mother's Day gift to my mom and how it didn't turn out right the night before?

I tell you I was FRUSTRATED! I was almost done with that bag and I hated that I couldn't get it to work right or look right.  I wasn't a fan of the pattern the more and more I worked it but I didn't expect it to look so YUCKY!

So I had the main part of the bag done.  All I needed was to attach a strap to it.

Then I had an idea! BUTTONS! I could add buttons and then add the strap!  So I rolled down the edge a bit and attached some colored buttons and added a different strap.  This is what I ended up with.

Here is a close up of the buttons

I added buttons on both sides.  I think this turned out WAY cute!
What do you think?

BLAH!

I worked all day on my mom's mother's day gift and it didn't turn out right.  I need to figure out one detail to make it work right...
So with a few more hours left of the day I started on my mother-in-laws and realized that I was misreading the directions and had to start over...
I'll get the done later, I just would have loved to give it to them tomorrow!!!

What to do when you run out of wrapping paper

I was faced with the dilemma the other day of not having any wrapping paper for the purse I had made for my sister-in-law.  I had found some Christmas paper and had thought of just turning it to the "wrong" side and doing something creative that way.  But then I remembered that my daughter LOVES tape and had used all the tape that I owned... even the duct tape!!

But I had tissue paper and this old shoe box... So I took the purple tissue paper and just glued it to the box.  I used 2 layers so you wouldn't be able to see the box design.  I then found these old cut out letters I had that were also purple and spelled her name on the top.  I think it came out pretty cute!
