Etsy Shop Updates

I had opened up my Etsy shop over a year ago and had some success with it. I found that after awhile that I didn't have time for it like I thought and also wasn't selling items... I learned some things from the process, so I'm not counting it as a total loss!

I decided about a month ago to reopen it with some new items and with some updates. I have changed my shop to Made by Velma (notice that the blog reflects the changes too!). I thought this was a little more fitting with what I am doing as some items I make aren't always geeky.

So here are two of the things I just added to my shop!!

I have custom made bear hats for kids! These hats have become really popular with my friends and family that I decided that they needed to be shared with everyone!!!

SO I'm still going to have a few geek things too!! Here is the cutest crocheted Yoda EVER!! I'm so excited that I can share this Yoda in my shop!!

I've got some other ideas and will add them as soon as I can! Take a look at my shop and let me know what you think! I would appreciate any feedback that you can give me!!

It's a Turtle!!

My youngest sister's birthday is coming up and I wanted to add a fun handmade item for her present.

I found this cute pattern for a turtle and decided he would be perfect!

Taking Advantage of a Long Weekend

I took advantage of this long weekend and crafted away!

The one project I'm really excited about was these lovelies

They look like regular gloves, but they are actually...

GLITTENS!!!!!

They are a nice combination of fingerless gloves and mittens all in one!

All I need to do is add a button so I can keep the flaps down when needed!

Made a cowl for a friend's daughter

Started an embroidery project

And finally I cleaned out our hallway -- it's an ackward hallway that leads to nothing and we have just used it to hide the junk we have! SO I have reclaimed it for my crafty storage! Thanks to Ikea I now have a beautiful space for my yarn, fabric, sewing machine and more!!

Beautiful Blogger Blanket

I recently discovered Jill's Knitting and Crochet Blog - Stocki. She has some wonderful projects that she is working on that caught my eye!

Jill is hosting the Beautiful Blogger Blanket! I am so excited about this! Basically she is asking for people to send in crocheted granny squares in any pattern or color and she will put them together into a blanket! Then those who participated have a chance to win the blanket! How cool is that??? The more squares you make, the more chances you have to win!

One of the rules was to use 100% cotton for the yarn, so I picked 3 colors from I Love this Cotton - Rosey, Sage and Mullberry. I found four different patterns to use and here is what I came up with!

I was inspired for this square from Craftyminz's blog. She was doing a granny a day last year and made some fabulous ones! The Pattern was found on Ravelry.

I started with the pattern from Red Heart for this square but didn't like where it was going so I just stopped here and thought it looked pretty enough on its own!

I loved how simple this pattern was!

This little square is my favorite! I know with my instagram it's hard to tell, but the flower is crocheted on top of the square so it pops right out! It soooo pretty!!! I discovered this pattern on one of my many stalkings through pinterest.

One of my friends asked me to make them a hat they saw in the store. I found the pattern on revelry and was ready to get started. I even found yarn on sale for it!

Well I got started in the project only to discover I had bought the wrong yarn! Urg! I bought super bulky instead of just bulky. Seriously there is a difference for those who are questioning this.

I sat here for awhile messing around with the yarn and finally decided it would be perfect for a cowl and I knew just the little girl to enjoy it!

My daughter even showed me all the different ways to wear a cowl!

not sure what she was doing here but her ears are going to be warm!

So I'm glad I made a mistake in the purchase of my yarn! It turned into a super cute prize for my cutie daughter!

Daisy Coasters

I have been seeing these cute daisy coasters pop up all over pinterest and had to find the pattern to make them. I found the pattern - in German of course. Seems to be my luck to find awesome patterns in another language! Thankfully I found a picture version pattern and I was able to make them!!

My plan was to make them before Christmas for my Granny & Granna but obviously I'm a little late... But I can still give them these pretty presents!!!

Kindle Case

I was looking through different patterns on Ravelry and found this really cute one for a Kindle Case! I have a hard cover for mine now but it just seems boring and a little bulky at times. When I through it in my purse it feels a hundred pounds heavier so I will gladly welcome a new,cuter, lighter cover!

I used Stitch Nation's Bamboo Ewe in Mermaid (how cute of a color name is that?) and found this awesome fabric for the lining at Hobby Lobby on sale!!

Sewing the lining in can be kind of tricky but it worked out really well! I had done it before on a clutch I made but had forgotten how I did it. I found this tutorial from Futuregirl to be really helpful!

All I need to do is add some buttons to help keep it closed!

Another Beat Hat!

Bear hats are SOO cute and I love to make them! They are the easy project I can make in one evening!

Here is the newest polar bear hat I made for my bestie's youngest baby.

My First Attempt at Knitting Socks

I love reading other people's blogs because I get great ideas from them! Recently I saw the awesome Peppermint Twist socks that Knit Purl Gurl made and I fell in love! I have never made socks before but I really wanted to try them now!!

I used Peppermint Twist sock yarn from Spinning Fates and this awesome sock pattern from Ravelry. I also used the videos from Lion Brand to help with all the complicated turning of the heal and gussets (never knew my socks had gussets before!)

I took advantage of the kids and hubby being out of town and got these done in a week. I'm not sure how often I'll make socks but it was fun to do!

Spreading some Geekyness for Christmas -- Crocheted Yoda

One of my nieces made a request for a crocheted Yoda for Christmas.

I think he turned out SUPER cute!!!!

I used Lucyravenscar's pattern from Etsy and it was super easy to follow. She has lots of other cute patterns so I would check her out!!!

I was able to make him in one evening! My husband thought he needed a lightsaber and I just kept forgetting to add it! Maybe I'll get it to him later ;)

I loved that I could make something geeky for Christmas and to see the smile on my niece's face was just priceless!

Nanny Granny

Finally I made a granny square blanket for my mother-in-law, aka Nanny

(The colors are actually grey and a bright teal blue but with my instagram pics they come out looking different!)

I love how simple this one is and yet it still looks awesome!

I made 4 giant granny squares and just joined them together.

For all of the blankets I made I used my favorite yarn from Hobby Lobby - I Love This Yarn! The yarn is super soft and comes in amazing colors! It really makes finding great color combinations easy.

Lucy's Granny Square Blanket

The blanket I made for my sister-in-law Lucy gave me a new challenge - reading a pattern from just a chart. Plus this chart was written in Japanese! Ya, it was hard but I love great challenges!

This turned into a rather large blanket of 143 squares, but it's perfect for my SIL and niece snuggle under!

I saw OliveOh posting some awesome pictures of the Granny Stripe Blanket she was working on and she posted a great explanation for how to do it too! So I thought this would be the perfect blanket for Amy!

I have been busy making presents for my family so I haven't been able to post my projects here! But here is glimpse at the three blankets I crocheted for my motherinlaw and sisterinlaws.

Here is the blog post that I used for some assistance. It has other blogs linked to it as well for more help! I didn't take any pictures of the process because my daughter and I were just having too much fun! We used hot glue to make sure those sneaky tops didn't detach from the plastic balls. Also my wire hanger had a plastic coating on it and I had to strip some of it off for to allow the balls to slip on easier.

And here is our finished product

I just need to get some ribbon to hide the hanger and it will be finished!

Adventures in Sewing - Bunting

I have always wanted to make my own bunting for my office.

I personally have a small office for me to have individual and family therapy for the kids who live at the facility I work for. I thought it would be fun to make a bunting that would serve several purposes. One it would make the space brighter and CUTER and friendly. I also thought I could include my kids in the process to allow them to have a discharge activity where they get to leave something behind for other kids.

I used this DIY but I know there are tons available on the internet if this one isn't to your liking.

Here are the triangles I made

Really you need some good coffee to make crafting really great!!

I wish I had gotten a picture of me sewing these triangles! I figured out what was messing up on my machine! Yeah and BOO! I somehow can't get the tension right for the top thread, so I have to physically hold the thread in my right hand from the top and then with my left hand hold the fabric! Its a challenge, so I'm glad these triangles look half way decent!!!

Now to get to the kid part - I am letting the kids decorate one side of triangle when they are getting close to discharging from our program. Here is the first one I have. I marked out the identifying info. I love that this kid added a mustache to his picture of himself!

(no matter what I tried I couldn't get this picture to turn the right way! I saved it different ways but blogger always made it back to this... sigh!)

So now I am trying to decide if I sew the bunting all together now or do I just add a flag as the kids decorate them? Either way I'm taking it down each time. If I put it all together then I can have it in a nice color pattern and the other way it feels a little more symbolic adding them one at a time... Suggestions??

Crafting for my Cub Scouts

My son has been in cub scouts for a few years and has moved up to Webelos this year. Now that they are Webelos the boys get pick their own patrol name and start getting ready to be Boy Scouts.

My husband is our den leader and he thought it would be fun if the boys had their own flag to show off in the pack. So here came the crafty momma to help out!

I used my new embroidery skills and loved how it turned out!

Halloween Sewing Fun

This year my son came up with a costume idea that I was going to have to make!

He wanted to be Ike from Smash Brothers

I'm glad I have a husband who has some engineering skills because I had no idea how I was going to do this one!! He had the idea to make the tunic from a large T-shirt and how to make the "armor" work with just some material and a belt.

I had fun putting it together and working with my husband on it!

One thing I have loved making is hats! They are easy, fast and make great gifts!

I had made a bear hat for my nephew when he was born and my sister requested another one since he has gotten just a little bigger now. (why do babies grow so fast????)

I couldn't say no of course and made two cute hats for him!

He has a new bear hat and a mohawk hat too!! He is so punk rock!!!

I used this awesome crochet pattern from ravelry and added my own touches with the ears and hawk.

Hats and Booties for some cuties

Sorry it has been so long since I last posted! I've been making lots of things! Most of the items I am making are gifts for other people so I have to wait to post a picture! Don't want to spoil any surprises!!!

My Cousin had twin baby girls and I had to make them some special things!!!

They of course need the cutest hats and I found a great pattern from The Dainty Daisy. These hats are much cuter in person!!

And of course every girl needs a pair of booties to match! These were made from a lovely pattern I purchased on Etsy from Two Girls Patterns

The babies were just born and are only 3 pounds right now! They have some growing to do before they can really enjoy their new things.

Blog Blanket Project

Courtney from You will. won't you? is hosting a blogger blanket project!

This is an awesome project where we make 6 granny squares measuring 6"X6" for each of the participants so we end up with enough squares to make a queen sized blanket. I'm really excited about this idea and have already started working on my squares... I might be a little too excited!! OH WELL!

I'm hoping to use my blanket for my office! I am a therapist for kids and this would be a great comfort my kids could enjoy! Plus what a great picture of people working together!

This is an awesome project that I think any level of crocheter can get involved with! Even if you have never made a granny square, you can do this! Check out Becky's great tutorials on making granny squares!

Cardigan progress!

I'm working on the bottom ribbing and then I'll work on the sleeves! Then a few finishing touches and it'll be done!!! I'm so excited! Now to get cooler weather so I can ENJOY it!!!

I got a little impatient and tried to see if I was ready to divide the sleeves off but quickly realized it was too small for me. It was a little harder to go back a row but I was able to make it work! Thankfully the area where there are a little mess ups is at the underarm, so who is going to see that???

Cardigan Fail...

So remember my cardigan project I started in June? Well I'm sad to say I had to scrap it.

Can you see what is wrong with this picture?

If you said 2 different colored yarns you would be correct! For some reason I Love This Yarn makes two shades of this green that have similar names and I somehow got the wrong one! I didn't notice until I had been going for a bit and just got so frustrated. I could just pull out the old color and start over. But lets me honest, I wasn't wild about the pattern. It just wasn't working for me when I was seeing it in person. I think some patterns are like that.

So I've been looking through some other patterns and found this one that I want to try.

I bought some I Love This Wool in Sungold with my Birthday money and I'm ready to go!

I'll post pictures as I make progress! Crossing my fingers for no more failures on this one!

Geekery for Charity

Something else I'm working on right now is more Jayne Hats!

I saw a recent tweet from Austin Browncoats asking for knitters to volunteer their time by knitting up some Jayne Hats so they can sell them for charity. I of course was so up for this!!

I just need to make 3 hats by the end of July and I'm almost done with the main body of two. I haven't added the earflaps yet because I figured I can just do them last and at the same time! Then of course there is the pom pom on top...

This is my first time to use real wool and I have to admit I'm in love! Combining the good wool with my bamboo needles and it's like knitting a little part of heaven!

I'm sure they could still use more knitters if you are interested! Look for the volunteer link on their webpage or I can send you the email.

Progress on the Cardigan

I've been spending a lot of time on the cardigan and it's coming along pretty quickly!

I'm already working on the bottom "lace" pattern. This is one of those knit from the top patterns that are easier for making garments. I just started on the top and then I sectioned off that sleeves for later and I was completely amazed that it worked! You can see actual sleeve areas and its all even!!!

Now I am nervous that this is going to be too small for me!!! I picked the "size" based on my measurements but its looking small!! But I can't really tell because everything is all bunched together on these circular needles. I guess I'll just work the pattern and see who it will fit in the end! I'll be happy to have a cardigan in the end and not some strange yarn mess!!!

Has anyone knitted a cardigan before? Any tips you want to share?? I'd LOVE them!!!

Bearded lady and kids!

So I go to probably one of the weirdest churches in Austin (The Well) and this past Sunday was Epic Beard Day! Well, it was epic beard day because we were talking about Albus Dumbledore from Harry Potter. Yep, we are totally talking about HP in church for the next few weeks.

I of course had to get into the whole Epic Beard Day and made these three lovely beards for myself and my children.

I used this pattern to help me get started but I improvised on the mustache and made each beard a little different. I was totally inspired by I made you a beard for my special beard.

It was fun seeing everyone's creations and being a little different!

So I have put together all the circles I made resulting in this beautiful blanket

only bad part is that it only measures to about 3 foot by 3 foot!!! So it't not as big as I would like!

But the awesome thing about granny squares is that is is super easy to just make more squares and add on!

So I'm going to make a row at a time and see where I end!

I've got 4 rows already. I'm already realizing that the blanket is going to be smaller than I planned so I will have to go back and make more circles. But I'm OK with that! It helps me to learn and getting a better grasp of the process!

Granny Square Blanket Update!!!

I now have all 100 circles ready to make in SQUARES!

Kira helped me sort them all

And then she helped me plan out the pattern we are going to use for the blanket. This was completely Kira's idea for the color pattern! It looks so awesome!

My little helper assisted in making stacks and then numbering them so I would put them in correct order.

I've started the squaring process today!

I'm going to use this antique white for the each square to pull everything together.

The blanket is going to be 10 by 10. I'll try to take some pictures along the way to keep you updated. This has gone faster then I had thought. I LOVE how great its looking!!!!

Progress on Granny Square Blanket

Last week I started my newest granny square blanket and I'm already making great progress!!

One week later and I already have the 1st row around all the little centers.

100 little circles!!!

Here is a better look at the colors I'm using. I think they are so fun together! This is going to be the perfect bright and happy blanket for my living room!!

I'm sure you are wondering what the next step is -- well here is a picture of what it looks like.

I'll be adding another row to each circle. I'm thinking this will take me more than a week to do all 100 circles. I'll try to post pictures even if I'm not finished with this step next week (or sooner if I have time!)

I really love making something for someone else and then getting such an amazing goodie in return!!

I just finished the Easter Swap and I made my partner some crocheted eggs

I had to hang it up right away!!!

New Blanket Project

I recently saw this blanket on pinterest and decided I HAD to make it!

I looks so pretty and fun to make!

I looked at the yarn colors I already had, added a few more and come up with these 9 colors for my blanket

I read on another blog where she found it more efficient and time effective to do all the centers first and then move onto the next row for all the centers and so forth. So I'm giving that a try.

I now have 99 centers done!

I'm going to see if that will work for the size of blanket I'm aiming for -- I just want something to cuddle under when I'm watching TV!

What I love about granny square blankets is that is simple to add more squares to make it bigger if needed!

I'll post pictures to show my progress as I go along! Hopefully it won't take me as long I took for the hexagon blanket!!!

FINALLY!

Last May I started the tedious process of making a Hexagon blanket for my daughter.

I am HAPPY to say I am FINALLY done!!!!!

I had no idea the amount of work required for a blanket like this but I am so proud of how it turned out.

I might have been able to get it done faster had I had worked on it only but I set it down for several months and just got the urge to finish it.

There are 95 hexagons and I finished it with a pink double crocheted border. My border looks wavy and I liked the way that turned out.

I had planned for it to be much bigger but it is still the perfect size for my little girl!

She obviously loves it too!!

Saturday my world changed when my nephew was born! I am soooo super excited that he is here!!

I'm so glad I learned how to crochet and knit because now I can make special things for my littlest guy!

I crocheted this tiny bear hat using this pattern for him to wear now

And then knitted this larger bear hat for when he is 6-12 months

Hooo is stalking who?

I think I have told you that I am not much of a fan of owls. Even after I crocheted my own owls, I still wasn't joined in on the craze.

Now my friend Marci has tried desperately to win me over by sending me pictures of owls (or maybe she is trying to annoy me... hmmm...) I get them in email, text, twitter messages and on my facebook!

Since she has gone to great lengths to share the owls with me, I thought I would pass them onto my readers in a weekly post I will call "Hooo is stalking who?"

Hopefully you will enjoy them =) Maybe you love owls and can really appreciate them. Or you might be like me and are still shaking your head!

I think Mondays have gotten a bad wrap!

I know they are the ending of weekend and the start of a new week, but that doesn't mean they can't be awesome.

I was thinking about this a few weeks ago as I found myself dreading Monday morning. So I've decided to take back Mondays and make them lovely. Crocheted Bunting

I have always thought that bunting -- those cute triangle garlands -- were extra cute! I've wanted to make one before but normally I see ones that are sewn together and I'm still learning the sewing stuff!

But a few weeks ago I found a pattern for a crocheted bunting and I knew I wanted to try it out!!

It turned out super cute!

I used this bright colored yarn I had gotten on sale a few months ago. I think the colors look great together.

I'm thinking of adding it to my Etsy shop -- which I neglected for the past few months! What do you think? Is this something you would want for your home?

Wedding Present

Last week my sister got married! It was such a great day and I was glad to see her on her big day!

I of course had to make something special for her!

Last May she made me a quilt for my graduation present so I thought it would be appropriate for me to crochet a blanket for her and the new hubby. I loved this blanket from Becky's Strumpet's Crumpets and was inspired to make one similar to it!

Knitted Wonderland!

Yesterday was the BIG Installation day for the Knitted Wonderland Project!

It was so amazing to see so many people putting together their tree sweaters!

My little girl even got in on the fun!

I loved all the variations from the other groups!

I personally think my group was the best ;)

First Thursday Preview

I can't believe it but TOMORROW is FIRST THURSDAY! I'm joining my friends Marci & Maja with a booth for us to sell our different crafties. I'm not as prepared as I would like to be, but I'm still pretty excited.

And to get you excited I thought I'd give you a preview of some of things that will be there!

I added a new flower head band for my girlies.

Craft Apron

I finished my craft apron! Yeah!

While I am far from being an accomplished seamstress, I feel very good about how this turned out! I tried to use a pattern but ran into some glitches that made me change things and just go with what I had. For one thing, my fabric for my pocket ran length wise so it made a smaller pocket then I had planned. Also I had originally planned to have a smaller inside pocket for business cards and I somehow sewed that on upside down! Thankfully I am best friends with the seam ripper! This project might have come out better had I been able to find my pins to hold everything together. Guess I'm buying more at the store for next time!

BUT it is still super cute and it is FUNCTIONAL! It will hold money, cards, pens, and I'm sure my phone!

I got my lovely fabric from the Stitch Lab. If you have never been there, you should check it out!!

Send Some Love

I can tend to get focused on the negative. One negative comment can bring me down and before I know it I'm only able to focus on the gray, dismal things around me. But recently I have had some very sweet positive comments given to me in person and through twitter. They made my day!!

It reminded me how important it is to spread positivity. One positive comment is a like a big hug! Its spreading some love around!

I thought one way I could spread some love would be to share these cute crocheted hearts I made with my followers! You guys have all been so supportive of me in my journey in crafting and I wanted to share some thanks with you.

Putting Together Our Tree Cozy

The other night AJ, Sarah and I got together to piece together our very long tree cozy for the Knitted Wonderland Project.

I had so much fun! It was great just getting to hang out with an old and new friend! I'm hoping we get to do this again!

I also knitted a scarf out of the same yarn colors for the volunteers.

Here is my cute little girl modeling it before we turned it in.

I just downloaded the iPhone app instagram and I LOVE the different settings!

I'm going to have so much fun with it as you can tell from my pictures!!!!!

Precious Little Gifts

I have been so excited about my little sister having her first baby! He is going to be born in April and I just can't wait to meet him! My best friend had a son a few weeks ago and one of my grad school friends is having a little girl in April. It must be baby season!

What better way to show your excitement then to make gifts!

I made these burp clothes for my sister and best friend. While I still have a long way to go when it comes to sewing, I still think they came out super cute!

Then for my friend who is having a little girl I made this cute hat.

I got the hat pattern from Ravelry and the flower is from Ravelry also.

Its so easy to make cute things for girls! I'll have to work some more on thinking of equally cute things for boys!

I hope everyone is having a great Valentines day today!

I have been working on a few Valentines crafts over the last few weeks.

One has been for Strumpets Crumpets Valentine Swap

I will post pictures once I know my swapee has her prize! I can't wait to see what I get!

The other thing I worked on was a cute embroidery project I saw at One Artsy Mama

I made these two shirts for my cousin's 2 daughters.

I thought this was the perfect thing for them because our grandmother always signed her cards and letters XX OO. I've noticed that my cousins have kept this up so why not make a special shirt to remind these girls of how awesome their great grandmother was.

I did discover that embroidering on T-shirt material is a little harder because it stretches all over the place so they didn't turn out as cute as One Artsy Mama but I still think they are cute for these little ones!

I'd love to see the crafts you put together for Valentines! I'm sure you did an amazing job!

Walking in a Knitted Wonderland

About a month ago I got involved in a very awesome project that is going to create a Knitted Wonderland at the Blanton Art Museum by covering 99 trees in striped awesomeness!!! There are over a hundred knitters/crocheters involved in this project with all different kinds of experience. This project is coordinated by Magda Sayeg, a world famous yarn-bomber!

I am sponsoring a tree with my friends Sarah and AJ. My friends Marci, Bridget and Maggie are also involved in the project as well!

Our lovely tree goes about 8 feet up before it branches out. That is a lot of tree to cover!!

I have already finished my section of the tree! I can't wait until this week to see our entire tree cozy all together!

I'll post more pictures when the project has been completed in March. You can also swing by and check it out from March 5th-19th ish. Its going to be AWESOME!!

Snow day = Perfect Snow Hat!

We don't get much snow in Austin. If we are lucky we get one day a year!

Well today is the lucky day because we have SNOW! A glorious 3/4 of an inch of snow!!

The way we are acting you would think it was a blizzard!

I made this hat a few weeks ago and it turned out to be the perfect hat for this weather!

Its made from super thick yarn that I got on sale. Love that it's UT Burnt Orange!

Me and the hubby are enjoying the snow. We watched the kids run around and run back in and run back out again!

Getting ready with more time!

So the First Thursday Adventure tomorrow has been postponed due to this CRAZY cold weather! Seriously Austin is staying weird with 80 degrees one day and then 20s the next! So now Marci and I have more time to get ready for our first craft fair.

Sackboys are fun dates

One of my old coworkers asked me to make her nephew a sackboy for Christmas. I love how simple this pattern is and how cute it always turns out.

I'm going to try to convert this knitting pattern to a crocheted pattern myself. My friend Renee also suggested making the zipper functional and having a pouch that you could put money in! How cute would that be? I'll let you know how that turns out!

But watch out, he likes to steal your drinks!!!

I'm trying to get myself ready for my first craft fair adventure in February. I'm going to join my friends Marci & Maja for First Thursday and I'm pretty excited and nervous at the same time!!!

I wanted to make some new things to add to my collection and see where they lead me.

I got some Christmas money so I splurged on some lovely yarn from Stitch Nation and got some great colors! And with those colors combined, I crocheted this fun scarf

I made it length wise and I love how it turned out!!!

I also made this star garland.

I was inspired by Becky's Garland at Strumpet's Crumpets and had to make one of my own.

I thought even if it doesn't sell, it will look great hanging up!!!

I can't believe how quickly 2010 has come and gone and we are now at the start of a new year!

Normally I'm terrible at setting goals and coming up with resolutions. Partly its because I have a hard time with the normal resolutions like exercising regularly or I think to big and come up with very lofty big goals that are hard to measure...

But when I was thinking about it, I did complete one goal last year. I wanted to learn to knit and crochet! And here I am!!!

my first knitted "piece"

I have enjoyed crafting and making things for others. It has become a great outlet for creativity, a way to bless other people with fun things and a way to meet awesome new people!

Something new that I'm adventuring into this year is the world of craft fairs! Thankfully I will be doing this with my awesome friends Marci & Maja. We are starting easy and going to have a booth at 1st Thursday here in Austin. I'm not sure what will happen in this adventure, but I'm excited. In the very least, I'll get to spend some time with my friends!

Another fun request

I got another request to make a special hat for Christmas. One of my friends asked if I could make a Pikmin hat for her husband.

What I loved about this project was I got to try something new in regards to putting a character on a hat.

The last time I did this for my Gomba Hat I used the fair isle technique to carry colors behind the project. I wasn't able to do it exactly right for that project but I thought I could try it again. Well it still didn't work because I ended up with a very small hat. Gotta figure out the tension!

So I thought for a bit and decided I could just "embroider" or cross stitch the characters ontop of the already made hat!

It worked out perfectly and the hat turned out great!

FINALLY I can share some of my Christmas presents I made for my family!!!

I really do love getting to spend my time making lovely gifts for my loved ones!

Awhile back my aunt had this awesome knit headband with a giant crocheted flower on it that she wore at one of the football games. I knew right away that I could make some for my sister-in-laws and it would be the perfect gift for them!

These were fast and easy to make.

I finished them off with a fun button on the end so it will be easy to take them on and off.

Hopefully I'll get a fun picture of my sister-in-laws wearing them to post later!

Along with those mohawk hats my friend asked me to make a special hat for her friend to help lift her spirits. We came up this simple santa type hat with this fun yarn.

It measured about 2 feet from end to end... like forever long!!!!

I loved how bright and happy this yarn is! Self stripping yarn is so awesome!!!

This hat made me smile, so I hope it does the same for the friend!

My friend made a request for some special hats for Christmas. This is my friend from high school whom I would make toothbrush bracelets with and we had paperclip necklaces. We were just a little different, but we were good together =)

SO it made sense to me that she wanted mohawk hats for her kids - ages 6 and 1!! All kids need some extra rock'n in their hats!

I will say I had a LOT of fun making these hats and I plan to make some more. Yeah!!

My friend asked for a special present for her father for Christmas. Since he is a Firefly fan, I thought this awesome mousepad would be perfect!!!

It's another hand embroidered Serenity with part of the theme song from the show.

I was so excited to get this finished. It took forever to find the right mouse pad to slide in the embroidery piece in, but I think came out perfect!!

Ornament Swap - Part 2

Let the Wild Rumpus Start!

One of the requests I got from the Art City Display was for the Wild Thing Character "Carol." At first I was overwhelmed with making such an iconic figure, but my friend Sarah had the perfect crochet pattern for him and I was able to get him finished in one weekend.

So here he is!

World AIDS Day

The 1st December is World AIDS Day, an international day of reflection, when we remember those who have died and those living with HIV.

I lost my uncle Bruce 15 years ago to AIDS. Today I remember him and I remember the things that were important to him. I remember what his death spurred in me - the desire to not have another person lose a loved one to such a horrible disease.

Today I wanted to share a video I had made as part of a project I did for graduate school.

AIDS and HIV are not going away and we can do something about it.

I hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving! I was blessed to spend lots of time with my family and extended family. I even got to teach one of my nieces how to crochet!

I have been making so many projects lately but most of them are presents for Christmas!! So obviously I can't post them yet because I don't want any of my friends or family to know what they are getting. On another project I have been asked to not post pics yet because of the high secrecy of the project! I feel a little like a knitting spy!!!!

BUT I figured I can show a little sneaky pic of some of the projects and I just won't tell you what they are! You can wait in anticipation for Christmas!!

I'm also excited because I got another order for more hats!!! I'm very blessed to asked to make things for other people.

Shelf Preview

At my previous job we had a little part of the office that was dedicated to showing off the different artfullness of coworkers in an area called Art City. My friend Sarah and I had volunteered to display some of our knitted/crocheted things for November. I decided to still participate with Sarah even though I don't work there anymore.

I was a little sad that I wouldn't get to see the display. I decided yesterday to make a little trip over to my old office to say hi to people and to see the display. I was so excited to see how cool it looked!

All I had was my cell and it took very bad pictures. This was the only one that came out good enough. I'll post more after Sarah sends them to me. There is another shelf and there are 2 scarves that Sarah made that are hanging up too.

It is also cool to see how excited other people were and how much everyone loved our work! Sarah has been getting lots of requests so we might have a lot of knitting and crocheting to do! We might have to plan a craft day together so we can see each other again!!!

I had to include my favorite picture of Sarah and I from the AIDS walk a few years ago. Yes, we were Big Damn Heroes. =)

Birthday Present

One of my nieces just turned 12 and I had to make her something cute for her Birthday.

I was inspired by this purse from Seni with love

I came up with this crocheted purse for her

It was hard to get the picture to capture the blue just right, but its a dark turquoise blue. I crocheted the brown and blue together to make the body of the bag and then used the blue alone for the flower and brown for the strap.

And added a cute button for the middle of the flower!!!

She loved it and I was super excited to give it to her!

Making presents for my sweet family is the best!

Mary Jane Slippers

Yesterday was my girls' weekend with my daughter. She wasn't feeling great so we ended up just spending a lot of time just hanging around the house, which allowed me more time to craft! I really needed a day to just crochet and mess around with a pattern!

I found this Mary Jane Slipper Pattern on Punk Projects last Monday and wanted to make a pair right away!! I didn't have what I needed to make a pair for myself, but I had some sparkly pink yarn that would be perfect for my daughter!

So I messed around with the pattern and ended up making some cute cute Mary Jane Slippers for my little girl!

I'm pretty excited at how great they look!

I can already hear my mom saying that she needs a pair too -- Yes mom, I'll be making you some too in blue ;)

Flower Headbands

I had seen this post on Itsy Bitsy Spider on making crocheted flowers and I instantly wanted to make some! They are so cute and easy to make!!! But would they look cute on? Why, a hand band of course!!!

I made this one for my daughter.

Its just a crocheted circle and I attached the flower on top.

I also made two more that I will eventually put in my etsy shop when I do open it... need to get working on that! These just need a button added to make it easy to adjust and take on and off.

And I have also been hard at work on the hexagon blanket. It might be smaller than I had planned... I have about 2 more rows to go. Trying to decide if I'll just make it this size or go for bigger... decisions decisions!!
